Summit Elementary Ma+h Club Meetings

Who:     Grades 3 – 5
When:   8:00-8:40 a.m. (coach has schedule)
Where:  Summit NEST
Why:     Foster a love of math and provide advanced math challenges to those who are interested

Daily Challenge

As an opener, we will provide a challenge question on the board.  The answer will be revealed at the end of the meeting.

Careers in Math

How do people user math in the real world? Club members will have the opportunity to ask guest speakers (parents, staff, friends, community members) questions (some prepared, some impromptu).

NOTE: If no speakers are available, we will watch videos about careers that involve math.

Games and Puzzles

Math is fun!  To prove it, we'll play games or take-on puzzles.

Answer to Daily Challenge

As our send-off, we will reveal the answer to the daily challenge

As a club, our goal is to participate in local competitions including the Rich Morrow Math Challenge, Noetic Learning, and Math Olympiad.  Rich Morrow is limited to 3 team members per grade in grades 3-5, so slots will be awarded based on assessment.  Noetic Learning and Math Olympiad are open to a school team of up to 34 members, so most club members will be able to participate.

To prepare for competition, we will hold special practices in addition to our regular meetings to include:

  • Individual Practice
  • Team Practice
  • Relay Practice

What we are not

We are not a before school child care program.  Children who participate will need to be committed to participating in competitions and learning advanced math.  High standards of STAR behavior are expected in order to continue in this program.  Parents and children should discuss before enrolling.
