Things You Can Do To Help Prepare Your Child For Kindergarten
Colors/Shapes: Naming and recognizing colors. Use color words in conversations. Point out colors/shapes (circle, square, rectangle and hexagon) in books and pictures. Identify colors and shapes in real world situations.
Alphabet: Recognize some/all uppercase and lowercase letters, know some/all letter sounds, write some/all uppercase and lowercase letters. Write first and last name in appropriate upper/lowercase letters.
Counting: Orally counting 1-20 or higher, practice counting objects.
Numbers: Recognizing and writing numbers 0-20.
Reading and Telling Stories: Read out loud daily to your child. Ask them questions about the story you are reading, such as, what happened first, what happened next, what happened last.
Please have your child practice tying their own shoes and zipping their own coats.
